The local area surrounding Brynhyfryd boasts a wealth of natural beauty, coastline and history, plus the shopping and nightlife of both Cardiff and Swansea just a short drive away.

For nature lovers there are numerous walks and rambles throughout the countryside, as well as the Kenfig National and Parc Slip Nature Reserves within minutes of the campsite. We are close to some great surfing beaches at Porthcawl and also the ones near Swansea. We are ideally situated whether you prefer rural countryside and hill walks or beaches and coastline.

We are also very lucky to be situated in an area steeped in history and industry with ancient castles, iron works, potteries and even museums dedicated to the coal mining industry. The world famous St Fagans Museum of the history of Welsh Life and the Big Pit coal mining experience are within a short driving distance of the campsite and both of these attractions have FREE ENTRY!

We are very near National Route 4 of the National Cycle Network (NCN) which runs from London to St Davids in Pembrokeshire. The Welsh Section of this route which runs from the old Severn Bridge to Fishguard in the Pembrokeshire National Park is known as the Celtic Trail and this runs within 1 mile of the site. There are also a number of community cycle routes in the borough which link up with the Celtic Trail such as the Tondu – Pyle
Community Route and the Ogmore Valley Community Route. We are also very well situated for mountain bike trails. The Darren Fawr Mountain Bike Trails are divided into two, the Glengarw, or ‘blue’trail for intermediate cyclists and the Gellideg or ‘black’ trail for experienced mountain bikers. Both of these are 3km in length and can be combined to make a great 6km ride. The Afan Valley which is about 14 miles North of Bridgend, near Maesteg is famed for its mountain bike trails which are considered some of the best in Europe. It is
approximately 12 miles North of our campsite over the mountains behind us.

If fishing is your sport, there are carp fishing ponds just a quarter of a mile up the hill from site and, of course, sea fishing at Ogmore by Sea, Porthcawl and Aberafon all between 9 and 11 miles away.

The area also provides fantastic shopping facilities with the McArthur Glen Designer Outlet within minutes from the site and local towns and villages providing unique boutiques and craft shops to the major cosmopolitan shopping of Swansea and Cardiff, our Capital City.
